Red velvet cake jars and mint chocolate chip cookies.

I'm back in this lovely town.

The lady baker whom I ordered cupcakes from just broke her finger (literally) two months ago. As a result, she was advised to stay off from beside the oven, but she started baking again not too long after that, and I got to buy from her again her famous red velvet cake in jars.

The jars came with spoons too, how thoughtful. They cost only RM10 per jar. For those who don't like the cheese frosting because it's too sweet, the delightfully light cake layers actually balanced off the sweetness cleverly. She also added nuts into the cakes. I thought they were pretty good.

I also bought some mint chocolate chip cookies (RM20 per jar). No regrets! They were so good. The mint essence was the hit I kid you not. My dad commented that the sweetness was just alright and I think it's really considerate for those who are sensitive to their sugar intake levels. The cookies were a pleasant surprise.

It's really a blessing to be able to taste her latest creations. Despite the injury, everything was delish.

Homemade sandwiches FTW.

The one and only sandwich specialty store in Kuantan, is Frankie Sandwich Cafe, at Star City next to SABS.

We picked the place to fill our hunger at dusk before beginning the torturous moment of waiting for dinner. By luck, it was opened. Seems to have odd opening hours as seen here.

The sandwich set we ordered was a tripledecker, forgive me as I let slipped the name from my memory. :P

I love: they cut the sandwich in quarters... Though it's still thick.

What I do recall is the succulent, honey soaked sweet ham slices wedged between the breads. He seemed to adore the bread a lot which was not the wholemeal type.

Another hassle is, if you had multiple ulcers, prepare to suffer the brief moment of pain before submitting the sandwich between your jaws.

The sandwich set came with a bowl of mushroom soup and a drink. In that case I chose a pot of mint flavoured tea.

Sorry for the dimly lit pictures, didn't adjust the lighting.

Didn't cost more than RM30 with an extra drink, just enough for two people with small appetite. ;)

Angry Birds x Oreo Cheese. Cupcakes, love from Kuantan.

(Photographed using GXR P10.)

I stumbled upon Fadzilah's Facebook profile about a year ago, and the decision to purchase from her hadn't occurred until last April. I was always away from home.

It was the fondant decorations and mountains of comments on her photos which attracted me. The cupcakes below would be appealing enough for anyone to do an impulsive purchase.

These are my favourite pieces made by her. :) But I didn't choose them over the ones I had because I thought they were rather girlish for a guy's birthday cake. Since I knew he liked Oreo cheesecake, and she also made them, thus the birth of such idea.

Angry Birds was one of the first few applications he's downloaded after iPhone reached him.

My customization request was to make figurines based on all the birdie roles with 4 words (she suggested to use fondant instead of cream) and then top the cakes off with chocolate ganache.  She also advised to add on a few heart figurines instead of leaving the rest of the cupcakes looking plain, and I thought they were a cute addition!

I placed my order with her a week before, and she was having a packed schedule but we made it.  On the appointed day, we had to travel to her house, which luckily isn't very hard to find.

A close-up shot before condensation becomes visible.

The bomber chick would be my favourite bird. There were wires installed to hold some of the beaks and combs (look more like hairdo's to me) in place.

The cute cupcakes came in an elegant package.

Eating them was pretty troublesome until I figured a way to dissect the cupcake cleanly for a clear cross sectional picture.  You have to open up the folds at the side of it to separate it from the container.

From the display above you could compare the thickness of the two constituents.

The taste was average, its heavenly taste was spoiled a little by the excessive ganache. :(  But seriously the cheesecake was good.  It'd be better if my budget was enough to increase the serving size of the cheese.

I also find it cruel to eat the birds, even crueler to dispose them.  But I had to perform the latter to the last one standing because frankly, I just didn't like how sugary they were. :(

The baker was friendly and helpful, she's got all the good qualities you could ask for from a home-based baker.

Ketchup-ing?

I've been neglecting most of my writing assignments and this light duty as a blogger.

Since I've gotten my new phone (low megapixel + no macro function) I was psyched about the camera function, at least it's an upgrade of my really old mobile.  *Grins*

Thus I stopped bringing any semi or full SLR to everywhere I eat so that I could enjoy the moment of...  Consuming, instead of searching for the perfect angle.  I've been working on full day basis last month and I had numerous writings to do, then I have this exam I'll be sitting in a few weeks' time. So, pray for me, really need the maximum blessings I can have.

A little update on the SLR I've been using quite frequently...  It has reported itself to the factory. :(

Here's a brief account of interesting food I've eaten throughout the last month.  Stay tuned for a longer, proper post after mid May. ;)

First, here goes the variation of chicken chop at the Teluk Chempedak stall.

It isn't listed on the menu displayed, just ask for chicken cutlets or express the same in whichever language you prefer and that would suffice.  Also, the price has gone up to RM10 after year 2011 commences.

I loved the texture more than the whole chop, should I say.  These cutlets have a larger surface area in contact with the frying oil hence the enhanced crispiness - the bomb!

What goes well with the fried chicken chop would be a nutritious bowl of dessert.

Honeydew Sago for RM2.50.

The western food + dessert combo has been a largely celebrated way of eating by its visitors as there is a dessert specialty a stall away.  A few of the prices had also gone up by 10~20c.

Spent a fortnight at PJ and there was this day I decided I missed IKEA Swedish meatballs all of a sudden.  I've always been eager to try making these using the recipe published in Flavours but I guess I require a little more winding.  After all, the cure for my appetite is just walking distance from 1 Utama.

The popular dish served with cream sauce, lingonberry sauce and french fries.

I was downright stuffed right after 8 meatballs!  This was my brunch and I was having a great appetite - which wasn't so massive, after all.  I dislike the fact that I was unable to even finish the sauces as I also took a large saucer full of mustard + ketchup. *Growls*

As my boyfriend helped himself to a Macadamia Nuts Daim (which appeared to be really delicious and not as sweet as we imagined), I took a serving of Prinsesstårta, a cream cake covered with a layer of lime green marzipan (and I didn't believe that was the marzipan the description alongside the cake meant!).  Its constituent is basically a dollop of whipped cream wedged in between the marzipan and a thin layer of sponge cake.  However the marzipan was too sweet for my liking which was why I removed it after a few munches.

It was a bad decision to have myself order a plate of 10 meatballs and an overly sweet dessert.  But, thanks to IKEA's budget-saving menu, we didn't have to spend too much on these. :)
