Pekan Siam.

Or (also) Padang Besar, located in the southernmost part of Thailand, where people deal in both currencies.

We often pay the little town a visit whenever we can during our stay in northern Malaysia, and it's where most people from Padang Besar (Perlis) would prefer to do grocery shopping at, despite some of the disturbing news about how food can be faked or done.

This stall is cute, I think it was selling pork meatballs.

Early this December, I had to opportunity to shop there (more clothing haul... but let's skip) and took home some gorgeously done food.

There's a street full of food stalls, but the weather wasn't a pleasant one. Nevertheless, we stopped by one stall ran by an old lady, selling som tum, Siamese laksa (and some other food).

We bought two packets each, and were charged 120 Baht (≈ 12 MYR).

We all knew how Thais love heavily flavoured food, yet I wasn't expecting it to be this spicy. The clear soup was fooling everyone. The soup was also infused with some herb, tasted like mint, which very unlike our native asam laksa that is cooked with fish.

It's a shame I couldn't make myself finish it. It was too spicy for me.
